For entrepreneurs where I work, in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey, differentiating who you are and what you offer is everything. Professional branding photography is one of the smartest investments you can make to build trust and stand out.

We recently worked with an online coaching practice that supports women’s health and gut health, and it was the perfect example of how thoughtful branding photography can bring a business’s story to life.

Before the Shoot: Setting the Stage

Great photos don’t just happen. They’re the result of planning, collaboration, and a clear strategy.

For this women’s health coaching practice, we started by really diving deeply into what the business stood for: wellness and balance. We talked about:

  • The clients they serve (women looking for support with health and gut wellness).

  • The look and feel they wanted (professional, approachable, and warm).

  • Where the photos would be used (website, Instagram, email marketing, client materials).

By the time shoot day rolled around, we had a roadmap in place and everyone felt prepared — which always makes for a smoother, more fun session.

Crafting a Strategic Plan

Every brand has its own story, so every branding shoot deserves its own plan. For this project, we created a strategic photography plan that included:

  • A shot list aligned with the practice’s goals.

  • Themes to guide the visual story: connection, wellness, balance, and expertise.

  • Clothing ideas, props, and location styling that kept everything consistent with the brand.

This prep work meant that when the camera came out, we weren’t just taking random pictures — we were capturing purposeful, brand-driven images.

The Shot List: More Than Just Headshots

One of the biggest misconceptions about branding photography is that it’s just about headshots. Headshots are important (and we took plenty!), but they’re only one part of the bigger picture.

Here’s what went into this women’s health branding shoot:

  • Professional headshots for LinkedIn, the website, and press features.

  • Lifestyle photos showing the coaches in natural, relaxed environments that felt authentic and approachable.

  • Work-in-action images We captured images of the coaches working online with clients, but we also captured things like journaling, meditating, exercising, shopping for healthy meals — the kinds of everyday moments that tell clients, “This is what the results of working with us look like.”

  • Detail shots Here we focused on specific details like books that help clients, an app that they partner with, supplements they help to curate for clients, a plate of carefully chosen healthy food.

When combined, these images created a toolkit the coaches can use again and again across their business.

Why Variety is Everything

Capturing a moment of pause

Our branding strategy emphasized health in a holistic sense. Our photography told that story.

If you’re a business owner, you know how often you need fresh visuals — whether it’s for social media posts, updating your website, or creating a new brochure. That’s why a good branding shoot gives you variety.

For this coaching practice, we delivered a mix of portraits, lifestyle moments, and branded details. That variety means she has:

  • On-brand images for Instagram posts and stories.

  • Polished photos for her website and email campaigns.

  • A library of visuals that help her avoid using generic stock photos.

And most importantly, they now have images that feel authentic — and that’s what clients connect with.

Bringing It All Together

This project for a women’s health and gut health coach really shows what branding photography can do: it’s not just about pretty pictures, it’s about creating a visual story that makes clients feel seen, welcomed, and ready to connect.

If you’re a business owner in Connecticut, New York, or New Jersey, branding photography can give you the same advantage. It’s a way to put your best face forward, tell your story authentically, and build trust with the people you want to serve.
